Alcohol Awareness Month LogoVALLEJO, CA (APRIL 18, 2013) – Drinking too much alcohol increases the risk of health-related problems like injuries, violence, liver disease, and some types of cancer. This April during Alcohol Awareness Month, Anka Behavioral Health, Inc. (Anka) encourages you to take this time to educate yourself and your loved ones about the dangers of drinking too much.

In California alone, an estimated three people per day are killed in alcohol-related motor vehicle collisions and nearly 200,000 are arrested for driving under the influence. To spread the word and prevent alcohol abuse, Anka is joining other organizations across the country to honor Alcohol Awareness Month and prevent alcohol abuse in our community.

If you are drinking too much, you can improve your health and wellbeing by cutting back or quitting. Here are some strategies to help you cut back or stop drinking:

  • Keep track of how much you drink.
  • Don’t drink when you are upset.
  • Avoid places where people drink too much.
  • Make a list of reasons not to drink.

If you are concerned about someone else’s drinking, offer to help or educate yourself about programs in the community that may be of assistance.

One such program aiding in the treatment and recovery of those with alcohol and other drug dependency is Anka’s Solano HOPE Program. Located in Vallejo, HOPE provides drug and alcohol outpatient treatment services that strive to alleviate the impact of clients’ personal barriers to recovery. Services include daily groups using recognized best practices, individual, couple, and family therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring, random urinalysis, goal setting and treatment planning, case management and discharge planning. Multiple health insurance plans are accepted, including MediCal. The program also offers a sliding fee scale for low income individuals without health insurance.
